AI Researcher - Publications | Inference Labs - Proof of Inference

Location: Hamilton, ON, Full Time

About Inference Labs:

Inference Labs is more than just a technology company; we're spearheading a new era in Artificial Intelligence. Advocating for decentralized, computationally verified AI systems while utilizing Web3 technology, we aim to challenge large monolithic tech corporations with our modular, composable AI solutions. Our vision encompasses building infrastructures, protocols, and applications to make AI more accessible, democratizing AI access while promoting frictionless exchange of value secured with Proof of Inference.

Job Description:

Inference Labs is seeking an AI Researcher – Publication for a 3–6 month contract focused exclusively on developing a high-quality technical whitepaper and guiding its publication on arXiv (Computer Science > Machine Learning category). In this role, you will work at the intersection of cutting-edge decentralized AI, zero-knowledge machine learning (zkML), and cryptographic inference verification, helping to articulate our innovative research to the broader scientific community. This is a short-term, outcome-driven position aimed at capturing our core R&D breakthroughs in a publishable format.

The primary deliverable for this contract is a completed whitepaper that meets arXiv’s standards and is successfully submitted under the Machine Learning category. You will collaborate closely with our research and engineering teams to review existing findings, contribute new insights, and ensure the paper is clear, compelling, and technically rigorous. The ideal candidate is a machine learning researcher with excellent technical writing skills and a proven publication record, who can quickly grasp our domain and drive a paper to publication. An active arXiv.org account (with the ability to submit papers under relevant categories) is required to fulfill the publishing mandate of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Whitepaper Development

  • Collaborate with Inference Labs’ researchers and engineers to gather technical details, data, and context for the whitepaper.
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews on decentralized AI, zkML, and cryptographic inference verification to situate our work within the state of the art.
  • Write and refine the whitepaper, clearly explaining our methodologies, findings, and innovations. Translate complex concepts (e.g. Proof of Inference protocols, zero-knowledge proofs in ML) into accessible, scholarly text.
  • Incorporate feedback from internal reviews and iterate on drafts to ensure accuracy, clarity, and coherence of the paper.

Publication & arXiv Submission

  • Ensure the final submission adheres to all arXiv submission guidelines for the Computer Science > Machine Learning category (formatting, citations, LaTeX usage, etc.).
  • Utilize your arXiv account to coordinate the submission process, including selecting the appropriate subject classification and handling any endorsement requirements.
  • Address any issues from arXiv moderators or update the submission as needed to achieve a successful publication.
  • Deliver the completed whitepaper published on arXiv as the culmination of the contract.

Qualifications

  • Education & Research Background: Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Cryptography, or a related field. Equivalent research experience with a strong ML focus will be considered.
  • Publication Experience: Proven track record of academic or technical publications (e.g. peer-reviewed papers, arXiv whitepapers). Experience writing about machine learning or cryptography is highly desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals and familiarity with cryptographic protocols or decentralized AI systems. Knowledge of topics like zero-knowledge proofs, secure multi-party computation, or distributed AI frameworks is a plus.
  • Writing Skills: Exceptional technical writing and communication skills. Ability to clearly articulate complex algorithms, experimental results, and theoretical concepts to both expert and general audiences.
  • arXiv Proficiency: Active arXiv.org account with submission eligibility in relevant CS categories (meets arXiv endorsement requirements or already endorsed to publish). Familiarity with the arXiv submission process and formatting tools (LaTeX) is required.
  • Project Skills: Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills to manage the writing process from draft to publication within a 3–6 month timeframe.
  • Team Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to efficiently gather information from subject-matter experts and integrate feedback. Comfortable working with a small, focused team in a fast-paced startup environment.
